Craniosacral Therapy

Gentle touch targeting the head, spinal column, and sacrum, can release restrictions in the connective tissue (fascia) caused by repetitive movements, dysfunction, and trauma. By awakening the natural movement in your organ systems, CST activates your innate healing power, allowing for deep emotional release and improved well-being. Book a physical therapy session with Inspira Physical Therapy in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY for a gentle and effective approach to healing.

What is Manual Therapy?

A method of specialized physical therapy that utilizes a hands-on approach to healing and recovery. Through soft tissue work and joint mobilization, patients receive

  • Improved tissue extensibility
  • Increased range of motion of joints
  • Induced relaxation
  • Changed muscle function
  • Modulate pain
  • Reduced soft tissue swelling, inflammation, or movement restriction.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy uses light-touch approach that targets the bones of the head, spinal column, and sacrum (located in the lower back). By applying pressure to these areas, tension, and pain can be released. The craniosacral system, which includes the soft tissues and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord, has a significant impact on the central nervous system and overall well-being. The name stems from the cranium, the focus on the head and sacrum, and the triangular bone at the bottom of your spine.

Why is Craniosacral Therapy so important?

Craniosacral Therapy plays a crucial role in promoting overall health and well-being. The central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord, is profoundly influenced by the craniosacral system. When tension and restrictions arise in this system, it can compromise the function of various body systems. Craniosacral Therapy releases these tensions, allowing the body to relax and self-correct, resulting in reduced pain and stress, improved resistance to disease, and enhanced health.

What can I expect at the first session?

During a Craniosacral Therapy session, you will be in a quiet and private setting, fully clothed, and lying on a comfortable, padded table. Your therapist will gently touch various parts of your head and body to monitor the rhythm of the fluid surrounding your central nervous system. By listening and evaluating with their hands, the therapist can locate areas of weakness and use delicate manual techniques to release restrictions and improve the form and function of your central nervous system.

Our sessions are 1:1 for 55 minutes. The experience is highly individual, and the therapy can be used alone or integrated with other treatments for optimal results.

The human body has an innate ability to heal itself, often referred to as the Inner Physician. Craniosacral Therapy facilitates and enhances the body’s natural capacity to heal when trauma or disease processes become overwhelming. By working with the body’s own healing abilities, this gentle therapy helps release tension and restore balance.
